About

Hello, internet!  I am Kate Gaschnig.  I’m a 22-year-old senior English Major and Journalism Minor at Rowan University.  My interests include: writing, reading, poetry, music, collecting vinyl, independent record stores and books stores, lyrics, philosophy, politics, film, history, environmentalism, nature, people, and a lot of other things that fit into that rather broad range I just laid out.  I love literature and writing, as evidenced by my fields of study, but my biggest passion is probably music.  I first made a connection to music when I was 12 or 13 and started going to concerts when I was 14.  I haven’t let up since, and I’ve been to more shows than I can remember–at least without the help of my ticket stub diary–over the past 7 years.  I intend this blog to be a place to share my experiences with live music in the Philadelphia area, review concerts, promote new releases, and just talk about what I love most.  Thanks for reading.

Note:

The pictures in the header were all taken by me this year (2011).  From left to right they are: S. Carey at Johnny Brenda’s, Bright Eyes at the Mann, Kevin Devine at the Watermark, Wavves at the Starlight Ballroom, and John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats at the Theatre of Living Arts.  All the venues are located in Philadelphia with the exception of the Watermark which is located in Asbury Park, NJ.

The title of the blog is taken in part from a lyric by Kevin Devine from the song “Cotton Crush.”  The original lyrics are “sift through the static to find a simpler sound.”
